My name is Sam Mahoney. I am 21 and a college baseball player. I trained with Matt Locke from June 12, 2010 to August 20, 2010. As a competitive athlete, I could not have asked for better results or a better overall experience than I had. My original goal for the summer was to increase my lower body strength and gain back the weight that I had lost over the course of my baseball season. At 6'5", I was down to a weight of 207 pounds and I looked too thin, felt weak, and ate way too much fast food and candy. The body composition test and sitting down and drawing out a diet plan was crucial in helping me identify how often and what I should eat. It was very simple and I didn't have to eat anything crazy. Matt also gave me valuable nutritional advice that will help me from now on.
As for the workouts, I will say that they are not easy, but if you are serious about your fitness, I think that you will enjoy the challenge of the workouts and enjoy challenging yourself. I worked out five times a week and if you put in the effort, you will get amazing results. I will also say that Matt was there to help me along and help me push myself to achieve the goals that I set for myself. He made it difficult when I needed to be pushed, and he was also able to see when I was about to hit a wall. Another thing that I cannot underestimate is the techniques that I learned on how to lift properly and how to avoid injury. This was a tremendous help to me over the course of the summer and something that I will carry with me
Over roughly a two month span, I was able to increase my weight from 207 to 239 and I put on 22 pounds of muscle. As for my leg strength specifically, I was able to increase the weight that I can squat by over 150 pounds. I feel stronger and more flexible now. I also have more energy during the day and more self confidence since I was able to meet my goals. It is a very rewarding feeling to know that your efforts can lead to achievement. I have been a college athlete for four years and I will tell you that working with Matt Locke is far superior to any college lifting program that I have ever done or heard of. I am now able to do things physically that I never thought I could do, and I never thought I could have an effective diet that I could follow. I believe that these last two months have and will continue to change my life for the better.
